Anambra State Ministry of Housing
What We Do
We develop and manage subsidized housing projects across the state, targeting low- and middle-income earners. Our schemes include outright purchase, rent-to-own, and mortgage options.
We design and approve residential and commercial layouts that meet modern standards for roads, drainage, utilities, and green spaces.
We formulate housing policies, set building standards, and regulate the real estate sector to protect buyers and promote orderly development.
We manage the transparent allocation of government-owned housing units to eligible citizens based on need, income, and other criteria.
We identify and rehabilitate blighted urban areas, upgrading roads, drainage, water supply, and public facilities to improve quality of life.
We provide a one-stop service for building plan approvals, inspections, and certificates, ensuring compliance with safety and zoning regulations.
A Home for Every Anambran
Our flagship affordable housing programme delivers quality homes at prices within the reach of average citizens. We partner with private developers and financial institutions to offer flexible payment plans, including rent-to-own and mortgage options. Recent projects include the 50-unit Awka Garden Estate and the 30-unit Onitsha City Homes.
Eligibility is based on income level, residency, and need. Applications are processed through our online portal or at our Awka headquarters.
Transforming Our Communities
Our Urban Renewal Unit identifies areas in need of infrastructure upgrades and coordinates with other government agencies to rehabilitate roads, drainage, water supply, and public lighting. Recent successes include the Onitsha Central Market area and the Awka Old Town project.
For new estates, we ensure layouts include proper road networks, drainage, electricity, water, and designated green spaces. Developers and individuals can submit layout plans for approval through our streamlined process.
